Nowadays, dental implant is known as the best treatment plan for toothless areas because of many reasons such as there is no need for teeth preparation before implant, it is very stable, it can improve the aesthetic aspects of the face, it can improve chewing power and so on; so, many people are eager to use this treatment plan especially after increasing the number of successful results.
In a meta-analysis; the results showed that the rate of implant survival after 6 months of bearing loads was 93.6% for fixed relative dentures and 97.5% for single veneers. The most important concern in dental implant in children is their bone and teeth growth.
Obviously, growth has some effects on implant condition and also dental implant and its prosthesis have some effects on bone and dental growth. It means using this procedure has some limitations in people who are in the ages of growth. But most parents insist on dental implant treatment because they are aware of its positive psychological impacts on their children and on the other hand, they want to have a more stable treatment.
So, many dentists have to evaluate the patients’ conditions in terms of physiological improving or preserving bone in the area of congenital edentulous or in the toothless area because of a trauma. The dentist should compare the dental implant treatment with removable prosthesis and also he/she has to pay close attention to the influences of dental implant on bone and tooth growth or vice versa.
Early implant advantages have been proved for some patients in special conditions during the period of bone and tooth growth. In this case, dental implant is inserted in a dynamic environment but can’t act like a real tooth. In fact, dental implant remains unchanged during teeth growth or displacement of the teeth. This will cause some irregularity in rows of teeth.
There are several personal differences that are unforeseeable and have great impacts on dental implant results. So, predicting dental implant results is somehow impossible. Therefore, the results of dental implant treatment are called unpredictable especially in mixed teeth period and even in puberty. If the dentist is obliged to early dental implant treatment; it is better to consider linger toothless areas including several lost teeth instead of single ones.
