Oral and dental researchers at the University of Oslo have made a synthetic transplant that helps bone regenerate. They hope to help patients suffering from severe tooth and jaw damage due to gingivitis, lower jaw cancer, infection or psychological shock by marketing their invention within a few years. The researchers say that artificial transplantation is especially useful in patients who have a very long gap between their two bones or when large bones are damaged by separation or radiotherapy and help the body repair these serious defects. Slow.

"With this new method, it's just enough to fit a small piece of synthetic bone in place," says Professor Peter Peter Lingstadas, head of the Department of Biomedical Research at the Clinical Dental Institute. It is really strong and porous enough for the growth of bone tissue and blood vessels inside it and acts as a new bone booster. "

Scaffolding (bone graft) is produced as lightweight cement bricks and cut to fit the fractured bone. Its constituent is a mixture of water and ceramic powder inside the rubber mold to give it a bar-like appearance. Ceramic powder contains single-dispersed nanoparticles of medical grade titanium dioxide, which is also used as an additive in chocolate, toothpaste and cooking foods. When the mixture is hardened, it sees a special degree of heat that causes the rubber mold to dissolve in water vapor and the carbon dioxide and nanoparticles to form a rigid structure. It has a 90% porosity and most of it is an empty space that can be filled with blood vessels and bone. Feature that does not exist in current material.

According to Lingstadas, the existing materials are gradually being degraded while the new graft remains as a reinforcer as the repaired internal part of the bone. In addition, the bone regeneration process can be accelerated by injecting bone marrow or bone marrow as bone marrow containing stem cells. In the traditional way, repairing the damaged bone is done by removing that tissue from healthy bone such as the lower jaw or hip. Patients usually experience discomfort and complications after surgery. Using a new transplant reduces and eliminates these complications. Bone grafts in animal experiments have yielded positive results, and the researchers intend to perform this procedure on patients with inflammation of the gums and bones of the lower jaw. They hope that orthopedics will also be interested in this new way. The new material was produced in collaboration with a Norwegian company called Curtis Calis, an expert in innovative biomaterials.
