Patients who had radiotherapy are not suitable candidates for dental implant. They have to refer to special dentistry centers with enough experiments in such cases. It has been recommended for these patients to have dental implant with 1 year delay but there are some earlier methods in some private centers with good results. The expected success for these patients is about 10% less than the patients without any history of radiotherapy. On the other hand, it is not necessary for patients with dental implant to remove the implant before radiotherapy if osteo-integration process is completed.

The empirical evidences have shown that osteo-integrated implants will remain intact after radiotherapy but the danger of breakage the implants that are inserted just before radiotherapy is very high.

Smoking reduces the success rate of dental implants in a considerable manner and dental implants are not recommended for drug addicted patients. The reason is smoking reduces the capacity of hemoglobin for carrying oxygen so bone tissues and soft tissues around the implant will suffer from lack of it. Due to the fact that dental implant is connected to the soft tissue and bone; this deficiency will increase the danger of dental implant breakage.

The patients with uncontrolled diabetics are not good candidates for dental implant because the risk of infection is high and the possibility for implant breakage is higher.

The patients who have had heart attack and had a cardiovascular surgery during the last 6 months are not good candidates for dental implant. They have to wait until 6 months or 1 year after their surgery and then, can take actions for dental implant after consulting with cardiologist.

The patients with unsuccessful gum surgeries or do not care about oral health are not good candidates for dental implants.

Keratin and sticky texture of the gum is another important factor that should be examined for patients. If the gum lacks of sticky properties, a gum surgery should be conducted first and then, dental implant treatment should be started. Generally, exact tests should be done before deciding about dental implant treatment to eliminate all ambiguities about implant surgery.
