Duration of dental implant treatment depends on many factors. Lack of bone in implant site in terms of height and diameter will lead to bone graft to compensate bone deficiencies. In some cases, bone graft is performed along with dental implant treatment processes. It is necessary to ensure enough bone volume before dental implant treatment.

Scientific Principles in the Design of Dental Implants in Relation to Types of Force and Its Application to the Patient (1)

Scientific Principles in the Design of Dental Implants in Relation to Types of Force and Its Application to the Patient (1)

The task of dental implants is to transfer forces to surrounding biological tissues, such as bones and gums. The guidance and control of biomechanics is dependent on two factors:
1 - Characteristic of the force input
2 - Functional level (functional) where the force is propagated.
This control and guidance of the forces are directly related to the principles of designing the initial function of the implants and the degree of modulation of the implant-dependent prosthesis. Accordingly, the performance of the forces and their characteristics and the bone-implantation-implant surface where the force is distributed is more than 90 Implant design available. The biomechanical basis of different implant designs is evaluated based on their ability to control biomechanical forces. The fundamental principles of force (F) and level (S) are combined

Benefits of Denture Implant-based Prostheses (Part 3)

Benefits of Denture Implant-based Prostheses (Part 3)

The maximum occlusive (chewable) force in a denture that uses a denture (moving prosthesis) is between 5 and 50 Ib. Patients who use permanent prosthesis to rely on dental implants can increase their maximum chewing power up to 85% within two months after treatment.

Unsuitable cases for dental implant

Patients who had radiotherapy are not suitable candidates for dental implant. They have to refer to special dentistry centers with enough experiments in such cases. It has been recommended for these patients to have dental implant with 1 year delay but there are some earlier methods in some private centers with good results. The expected success for these patients is about 10% less than the patients without any history of radiotherapy. On the other hand, it is not necessary for patients with dental implant to remove the implant before radiotherapy if osteo-integration process is completed.

The geometry of the implant and its relationship with occlusal forces

The success of implant therapy and bone loss is related to different design of the implant body. Macroscopic design of an implant has a great impact on force bearing surface in the bone. Protruding parts from implant surface such as ridge, bone crest, threads can transfer stresses to the bone while forcing.

Some points about dental implants

Increased age of toothless patients and also in some cases serious depletion of jaw bone has made it very difficult for deciding about dental implant treatment. On the other hand, most of the patients are eager to have dental implants despite of severe jaw bone depletion and this is the most important challenge for dentists. Removable dental implant-based prostheses have reduced such problems but patients are not satisfied with removable dental prosthesis.
